The Death of Cleopatra

This is my second attempt at capturing the famous end to the life of Egyptian Queen Cleopatra when she committed suicide through an asp bite. It is still unclear how historically accurate that is.

With thy sharp teeth this knot intrinsicate
Of life at once untie: poor venomous fool
Be angry, and dispatch.

—Cleopatra, Act V, scene II
Antony and Cleopatra

So this is the painting

This is what inspired it

And this is the 2009 version

What Katie Davis says about this:

This is so cool! First of all, I love your reference picture!! Your Cleopatra costume is amazing! I really like how you painted the scales on the snake! It’s so detailed! And I have probably said this before, but I am mesmerized by the way you paint hands! Her clothing is so beautiful as well! And I really like her expression; like acceptance and almost relief? It feels serene but ominous at the same time and it’s so cool that I’m sensing such contradicting emotions from one piece! I love this! Absolutely beautiful!

What Kathleen Morrill says about this:

I love the textures of everything in this :0 especially in the hands and skin.
