How Apollo moved the Sun

Apollo is the Greek god of music, truth and prophecy, healing, the sun and light, plague, poetry, and more.

He actually drives a horse drawn chariot across the sky but for the purpose of this art nouveau/Mucha inspired painting, I make him physically move the sun.

Hyacinth was a dead prince that Apollo made into a flower: the hyacinth. Acanthus was another of his lovers who died tragically and she was turned into flowery bush, the acanthus plant. All plants follow the sun as it travels across the dome of the sky.

Based on a photograph by Robert Mapplethorpe.
