Danse, La Esmeralda

Based on flamenco dancers.

“See the finest girl in France
Make an entrance to entrance
Danse la Esmeralda

Topsy Turvy

“Then tell me, Maria, why I see her dancing there?
Why her smold’ring eyes still scorch my soul

I feel her, I see her, the sun caught in her raven hair
Is blazing in me out of all control”

-Hellfire, Soundtrack to the Hunchback of Notre Dame

Princess of the Thousand Roses

Based on a song by Vangelis for the film, Alexander. It is the song that plays when the fallen King Darius’ daughter meets Alexander the Great for the first time.

The entire painting is based on Persian carpets and textiles.

You can hear the princess being addressed at 0:42 as the Princess of the Thousand Roses.

A Very British Safari

My country, Ghana, is a former British colony and I have always been fascinated by colonial architecture, history and influence. I always visited old European built forts, castles, bungalows and institutions. I like that form of tropical, colonial architecture. It seemed like such a fascinating time of exploration.

I especially loved visiting Elmina  Castle. I once got a glimpse of the first bank in Ghana that obviously fell to ruin from lack of care.

This is based on a photo shoot with Keira Knightley for Vogue.
